Final Assignment - Color Temperature

Session/Year: Spring 2008

Final class (Tuesday June 3rd)

——————————————————————

Today we had our final class and last critique in Art 10A - Design 1.

Summer is coming! It’s exciting to be moving on, and I look forward to applying what I learned in this class to my artwork in the future, but I felt sad parting with the class. The 15 weeks of class has come and gone so fast, but during that time the class had become like a big family.

For the past two weeks I’ve been working on the final project: the “Color Temperature Assignment.” For this assignment each student had to create a design using 3-5 triangles or amorphous shapes, then paint the design on a 15″x20″ art board, using warm intense colors to make the triangles or amorphous shapes come forward in space, and cool dull colors to make the background recede.

I decided to go with 5 amorphous shapes for my design.

During the final critique we had a potluck! It was very enjoyable, and a great way to have the final class.

There was a lot of fantastic work up on the wall today. Here are some pictures of the critique:

After the critique/potluck everyone said their goodbyes, and slowly the classroom began to empty.

And so it all came to a close… Art 10A end.

“Color - Value Assignment”

Classes 23-26 (Tuesday May 6th - Thursday May 8th)

——————————————————————

A few days ago we had a critique on our latest design project: the “Color Value Assignment.” For this assignment, each student had to create a repetitious design using a complementary color scheme, with the design being one color, and the background being the other. With each section of our design we had to use a different value, ranging progressively from tints to shades.

I choose blue and orange for my complimentary colors. My background before I painted my designs:

Four Seasons Assignment

Session/Year: Spring 2008

Class 18-22 (Tuesday April 22nd - Tuesday May 6th)

——————————————————————

It’s been a little while since I posted about my Design class, I’ve been so busy with my art assignments that I haven’t really had time to write about them.

The past few assignments were about color, and each involved painting, which is a new medium for me. Painting is fun, but boy is it time consuming! My experience with paint has been great so far, but I could do without all the mess and cleaning that comes with it. I guess it wouldn’t be the same without it though…

Our last assignment was the “Four Seasons Assignment,” which involved using four colors to create four unique designs, each with a different color being dominant.
Here’s some pictures of the critique:

A vector I did as a request for Kathy.

I did this piece in a new style, and I’m really happy with the way it turned out.

Color Lecture

Session/Year: Spring 2008

Class 16-17 (Tuesday April 15th, and Thursday April 17th)

——————————————————————

Spring break is over, and classes are back in session.

On Tuesday April 15th, Jerry continued his color lecture. We talked about Primary Colors, Secondary Colors, Tertiary Colors, color schemes, paint, brushes, and much more.

On Thursday April 17th we did some painting, there was no lecture, and it was a hands on work day. It was fun, and a new experience. I’ve played with paint before, but not for years, and Thursday was my first time using professional paint, and a quality brush.
